24 years old. Aca-fan. Television enthuisiast. Radical feminist. Movie lover. Graduate student. Avid music listener. Bisexual. Vidder. Kinkster. Polyamory supporter. Graphic artist. Fiction writer. Researcher. Social anarchist.
The things I do cannot be divorced from the things I love which cannot be divorced from the things I am.
Emma Goldman, a radical feminist and anarchist during the late 19th and early 20th century, once said that "The history of progress is written in the blood of men and women who have dared to espouse an unpopular cause, as, for instance, the black man's right to his body, or woman's right to her soul."
Today, I face many battles -- as a woman, as queer, as disabled, as kinky -- that I don't have the option to ignore because they are my battles. Those who speak against women, queers, the disabled, and kinksters speak against me. Yet, because my queerness, my disability, and my kink are invisible, I have the option to remain silent and so invisible too. When a colleague makes an ignorant joke about what kink is I have no scarlet letter on my chest that demands I speak up. When a professor comments about women in the work place forty years ago and excuses the discrimination, or gives the story positive spin, because 'that's the way it was back then' I have the choice to remain silent, as my female-identifying classmates remain silent.
But my heart is not silent. It is not invisible to me. My mind is not silent. It is not invisible to me. I am not silent because if I am invisible to them then who will be left to speak for me?
Here you will find fandom, politics, art, sexuality, writing, academia, reviewing, conversation, and reccing. I'm open to anything but hate -- hate of women, hate of queerness, hate of feminism, hate of fans, hate of kink or polyamory or fucking graphic arts. Hate is not welcomed here.
